The latest news from Nimbleslick.1.30.12: Freekbass Joins Nimbleslick Entertainment
Nimbleslick Entertainment is honored to announce the addition of Freekbass to our stable of touring artists. Born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Freekbass was an only child who initially wanted to be a magician. He later developed his own obsession for cartoon superheroes and comic books, relating to the underlying themes. Living in Cincinnati exposed Freekbass to genres of music he may have missed otherwise. While most kids were listening to Nirvana and Green Day, he connected with the bottom-heavy sounds coming out of the boom boxes like Zapp and Midnight Star. While working in a music shop to pay off his first electric bass he had in lay-away, he began to study the classics of Larry Graham, Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder, Parliament and Bootsy with a bass in one hand, and an MPC2000 in the other. Freekbass has released four full-length CDs, including the current “Junkyard Waltz” which includes guest appearances by Phish bassist Mike Gordon, guitarist Buckethead, keyboard wizard from P-Funk/Talking Heads Bernie Worrell, and is produced by funk legend Bootsy Collins. Also, national music DVD instruction company, The Rock House Method, recently released two Freekbass instructional DVDs “Learn Funk Bass with Freekbass (Level 1 & Level 2) ” . Last year Freekbass connected with DJ Logic, and Particle keyboardist Steve Molitz to form the funktronica trio, Headtronics. He also tours with the bass and DJ livetronica duo, “FREEKBOT”, with DJ Tobotius from the group Science Faxtion, and winners of the DMC DJ Championships, the Animal Crackers.

We are very pleased to welcome our newest client, Consider The Source, to the Nimbleslick roster of clients.Toting the loaded description Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Funk, their sound is a melting pot of Middle Eastern scales, psychedelic jams, and a hard rocking rhythm section. Featuring Gabriel Marin on Fret-Less Double Neck Guitar, John Ferrara on Bass, and Justin Ahiyon on Drums/Percussion, the three musicians cite their influences as including The Bad Plus, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson and Tool—but a major source of their musical power can be attributed to a trip the band took to India, where they studied the complex tala (rhythm) of North India, and the micro-tonal scale structure and melodic ornamentations of South India. Guitarist Gabriel Marin, recently highlighted in Guitar Player Magazine, says, “Our music combines influences from Turkish, Bulgarian, North and South Indian styles with jazz and fusion, and then we filter it through our own heavy rock and psychedelic sounds and approaches.”

6.21.11: Flight Risk Debuts New Album @ Athfest
No gig is too big. No hall is too small. FLT RSK – Athens, Georgia’s premiere electronic act – has been bobbing and weaving their way across the Southeast for years now, playing both intimate club dates to a select few people “in the know,” and sweltering outdoor festivals before orgiastic throngs of fans, and now, at long last, they are unveiling their debut LP People and Places at this year’s Athfest Music and Arts Festival. It was well worth the wait. Recorded with Michael Gavrielides at Athens’ dreamLab Studios, and available for free download at http://www.FLTRSK.com, this album is sure to provide the perfect soundtrack for your Summer of 2011. Producer/keyboardist JB Lawrence, drummer MatthewWoolley, and bassist Matty G are a trio not to be trifled with, combining their talents for a pulse-quickening journey through digital space and musical time, borderhopping between at least a dozen different subgenres of modern electronic music with reckless abandon and effortless aplomb. The Matts are as in sync as a drum and bass duo can get (right down to their names) and their impeccably danceable rhythms create an environment in which Lawrence’s production wizardry and synth bravado can bloom in a thousand different directions, from the sample-based ambience of “The Realm” to the fluttery IDM of “Mishka”; from the funky left field hip-hop of “Mass Transit” to the atmospheric experimentalism of “…With Eyes So True.” Further stirring this mind-melting pot, Athens’ rising star Lera Lynn provides some sultry vocal soul on the stunning electro R&B number “For Real,” and Atlanta MC Priceless the Kid lays down some elastic rhymes on the hot-n-heavy club stomper “Fe’zed.” Indeed, in a genre where artists have a tendency to blend together, FLT RSK can’t even produce two tracks that sound alike, but their spot-on collaborative chemistry and peerless showmanship remain a defining constant. So fasten your seatbelts, turn off your cellphones, and put your tray tables in the upright and locked position, because this band is ready to take FLT. 4.19.11: Dub Is A Weapon Signs to Nimbleslick Entertainment
Nimbleslick Entertainment is pleased to announce the addition of a new client, Dub is A Weapon, to our booking roster. Brooklyn-based, Dub is A Weapon has been together for almost five years and is currently ranked 6th within the World category and 20th within their RPM category by CMJ Charts. A mixture of talented musicians, the band has taken the idea of a live dub group and made it a sensational reality.
Dave Hahn, the mastermind behind the band, has a rich musical experience under his belt, having played ska with The Slackers and Stubborn All-Stars and Afrobeat with Antibalas. Hahn has also worked as a dub engineer, but it was the dream of making his own dub record that drove him to form Dub is A Weapon. "Dub hooked me in," explains Hahn. "It really reminded me of modal jazz with its static harmony, which gives musicians lots of freedom to explore and encourages listeners to contemplate what musicians are thinking about. At the same time, dub and reggae are dance music, even if you have that same meditative quality."
To make this dream a reality, Hahn joined forces with legendary percussionist Larry McDonald. McDonald, nicknamed the "Original Beatnick," has played on crucial Bob Marley cuts, as well as with Taj Mahal, Gil-Scott Heron, and Bad Brains. Also on the roster are drummer Madhu Siddappa, Ben Rogerson on bass and guitar, and young sax ingénue Maria Eisen.
Their new album "Vaporized" is not out until April 26th, but has already been exposed to extensive airplay. "Vaporized," captures the group’s diverse energy in a way that mirrors their live shows. The band played and did the dub effects live, with next to no overdubs or post-take tweaking, at a studio run by a friend, the sound engineer for reggae band John Brown’s Body. "It’s like a jazz record from 1950s," notes Hahn. "We did a couple takes of each song, then picked the one that sounded best. We laid the stuff down and made it happen." There is no doubt the record will do great with so much national attention prior to the release date.
Dub is A Weapon is currently on tour of the Northeast and will hopefully be making their way down South in no time. Again, we are ecstatic to add this talented group to our team and will keep you updated on their musical journey.
4.12.11: Lingo signs to Nimbleslick Entertainment
Nimbleslick Entertainment is pleased to announce the recent signing of Atlanta-based rock band, Lingo, to their client booking roster. The band has been working the road hard over the last year and has won over legions of fans all over the Southeastern United States. With two studio projects under their belt, Lingo looks to continue their expansion into new markets for 2011.
Music may be the universal language, but that doesn’t mean it should all sound the same. There are a lot of people speaking the language of music, but most of them don’t really have anything new to say. Lingo is different. This is a band with their own secret language, as their name would indicate. There are familiar components, to be sure—ripping guitar solos that evoke the Allman Brothers, African and Latin grooves, soulful vocals, thoughtful lyrics. Still, the result is unlike anything else out there, and if you open your ears wide enough, you can tell Lingo has something to say.
They aren’t just a one-trick jamband that is all jam and no song, either. For such young men, songs like “Agents” and “Wake Up” are remarkably perceptive and complex, from the intricate, suite-like arrangements to the wise-beyond-their-years lyrics. This is a band that has something new to say.Like some hip new street slang that hasn’t hit the mainstream yet, Lingo is currently one of the best-kept secrets in music, but their tribe is growing. This new sound speaks from the heart and reaches the soul, once you learn the secret language.

Their message to lovers of rock and roll remains the same: This is not about us, and we all need family to get by. The Dirty Guv’nahs have been spreading their rock gospel across the Southeast for three years now, showcasing their sound which has been best described as "a passionate, jubilant slice of rock-meets-Americana."
